My Project About the Rosetta Stone

This September I will be starting at a new school. The school is supposed to be very academic and so to prepare me for my new school the teachers assigned a project to me. They said I could create something related to an interest of mine and that I needed to complete the project by the beginning of July.
I’m interested in archaeology and my favourite archaeological civilisation is the Egyptian civilisation. I’m also interested in Greek and Roman archaeology but I prefer Egyptian archaeology because it seems to be more unknown and mysterious and because they built more temples and sculptures.
Because of my interest in Egyptian archaeology I decided to go to the British Museum for inspiration because they have lots of artefacts that are related to Egyptian history. I went with my dad to the museum to have a look for some ideas. Egyptian artefacts were spread throughout many rooms in the museum and also in a large exhibition area on the ground floor. We saw lots of sculptures, read loads information about the various phases of Egyptian history and also saw the many types of symbols that ancient Egyptians used.
There was one exhibit that really stood out to us and that was the Rosetta Stone. This was because there were lots of people around it and also because there was lots of information about it too. I already knew about the Rosetta Stone because I had been to the museum before but it remained interesting to me. This time though I thought I would read and learn about it in more detail.
We spent a little time trying to understand how historians used it to decipher hieroglyphics and we kind of learnt that they could crack a little of the code by comparing it with other languages, and then use the little that they understood to gradually work out more of the symbols. A bit like solving a really complex Sudoku puzzle! We took some pictures and made some notes until we had enough information for my project.
Once we got home I organised and put all the information together and made an easy-to-understand book together about the Rosetta Stone. If you’re interested, you can download the book from here.
I hope that you read and enjoy it!
Thanks Abdurahman, your PDF is very interesting! I had no idea the Rosetta Stone was rediscovered by accident. Imagine just tripping over something that important?!
A great pdf! It is informative and interesting. Your presentation of information is great. You clearly have great IT skills. Wish you a great success in your new school in September.
Amazing!!
