The Industrial Revolution occurred during 1760 to 1914. During this period many things we still use today were invented like cars, trains and batteries. It was also the transition from agriculture to industry. Before the Industrial Revolution, only 15% of the population lived in towns or cities, but afterwards 80% lived there. And also the population grew by 260%. This helped because there were more people to work in the factories that were being built at a high scale.

Global warming

But this was also the time where global warming increased at the fastest rate ever. Huge amounts of carbon dioxide were released into the atmosphere. One of the main things that helped carbon dioxide levels to get so high was the invention of steel which is made by adding carbon to iron. Steel is useful because it is stronger than iron, but in the process of making carbon, carbon dioxide is made. And later on, Henry Bessemer discovered a method of making steel even faster which was more harmful not just because more carbon was needed, but also because more carbon dioxide was made in the process of mixing the carbon and the iron. And because of his discovery many things could be made quicker which also made more carbon dioxide.

Inventions

Some useful inventions were invented during the Industrial Revolution like the steam engine which was used to make the first trains, steamboats and even the first factories! Other useful ones are the telephone, concrete and the lamp. It these were not invented life today would be very different. But some of them were not as useful like the steam car (which was inspired by the steam train) because while you are driving you have to put coal in a big fire at the front which meant that there will always have to be two people in the car while it is moving, one to drive and the other to put in the coal, and it will also be very hot inside it. Other not very useful ones were the moustache protector (which was designed to protect your moustache while drinking coffee), a ventilated hat (which prevents your head getting sweaty while you are wearing it) and an artificial leach (to remove small growths inside your body).
